Havanese Rule

We are having a family argument - extended family about Boxers ruling but we think Havanese rule and they don't drool like Boxers. Little Fiona thinks she rules the house but that's another story.

Here Fiona is standing on the recliner's arm watching everyone. As you may or may not be aware, Havanese like to sit, sleep and yep stand on high spots. Fiona is so confident in it that she does a one arm stance.

Our Treasure continues to live up to her name. She is seen taken on all the pups all by herself and even Abigail who thinks Treasure is the best okay thing she has seen for quite awhile. Perhaps it is due to her being new and she doesn't back down.

She seems to already think she is ALL that!

We had Yvonne's crew here overnight due to the storms. You should have seen them all go for a couch dive right on Nathan where I was left with just Downsey. What was THAT about? Usually it's an equal opportunity thing around here but maybe it was due to the reality that I had a brush in my hand. It couldn't be that - could it? hehehe

We had a whopping - guess how many dogs here yesterday. (We just got a new higher gate for our front door as Wasabi and Kat like to jump the smaller one and this one has a door)

It was fun but now it's watch TV, get warm and chill. Hope you have a great night if you celebrate Xmas. Enjoy and don't forget the furry ones in the bus-y-ness of it all.

Catch you all tomorrow!!

Havanese Breeding Lessons

Sometimes life offers you things you have no clue why they unfold as they do. Yesterday we found out that Wasabi lost her pup(s). There is no reason. Could be anything from stress to wasn't viable - just have no clue why but it was highly suggested that we breed her next heat and do more than a 24 hour window. If you remember, I had pneumonia and Nathan was sick so we couldn't stay. As I said - not meant to be.

That means we will have summer pups if Wasabi's heat stays true to form. We will also breed her many times to avoid this issue.

Anyone who thinks breeding is easy - well it isn't if you really genuinely care about your dogs and we do more than you know.

Now on to happier moments. Kat had his preliminaries done - all was great and now he is doing his adults and the vets felt all was great. He also got a slew of shots and is a very sore boy today so we are hoping he is back to normal soon.

The vet loved Treasures patellas - thought her eyes were gorgeous and laughed about how compact and plump she was. Abigail is 10 and a half pounds and I swore she was heavier but she also was a plump thing and thinned out as she got older. Fiona is still a tiny thing with a good muscle mass.

This month we do cerfs (eyes) and next month Treasure gets her baer (hearing) and cardiac done. We believe in testing for us, our puppy people etc.

We had in and out white out conditions coming home yesterday and another storm coming on Sunday.

Treasure is a treasured addition. She reminds me of Fiona's spirit for life. We see her holding on to hair on one of the dogs with her mouth and them running and dragging her along. I have to get a video of it but I think I need to carry one around to catch it. It's a pure riot.

Well, I need to get coffee going. I don't have my fave bread for breakfast but I will deal and Kat is back in bed with Fiona and Nathan snoozing. You do not want to hear how Nathan was out with Kat this morning and the poor boy was in too much pain to do anything but lets just say, Nathan looked comical and had a lot of drafts, I suppose and we won't say anything more except he did have his cap on. The things we do for our dogs - but they are worth it - no?

PS: We are missing the Gidget already and hoping she has a truly great Xmas. We are having 2 Katsuro puppies coming on the 23rd. One is a steel grey, black with white sox and the other is Rufus that you saw - a myriad of tans and whites, cream.

Well hope you have a fab day. More later... Kiss the pups and really enjoy them - will ya?

Fun Times at Talemaker Havanese

Even thought it rained, the crew had a grand time today. There's something about the bounce of the safety cover that brings the excitement out. It also increases the yard. If you have a pool, you should seriously consider one for safety and for fun!

We also had a family visit and the dogs got to play with them. Now how cool is that to have socialization time. But that human mommy had to watch Lola as she is still in heat. That's okay as she likes hugging and sleeping next to Auntie Darlah.

As you can tell, now that Abs heat is over - she's back to her usual self. The brace is behind her and great things are coming her way - a puppy to play with in December and perhaps more puppies.

Tomorrow some of the crew gets to go visit Sebastian at his house. That human daddy better bring the camera as human mommy can't wait to see how much fun they will have.

The point of all of this is - socialize - socialize - socialize. It's really important as it will help your dawg become confident and all he can be!

Sun Snoozing Havanese

Today we have Yvonne's crew staying for the day and we will soon have a Kat/Lola baby visiting.

We hope to get a ton of photos though the human female here is way under the weather. We will try or maybe the human male will have to do it. We shall see!

Looks like the Fiona and her daddy took a sun bath snooze!

From Mangled Mess to Stylin' Havanese Style

Fiona was bathed early this morning much to her irritation but she cleaned up well. But mommy - these crazy rules of no hair ties. I can't see.

The gal was a tad miffed that she wasn't allowed to play and hang out with the crew.

She actually created a delay tactic that didn't totally work. But that's the mind of a dawg like Fiona - always thinking about putting that foot over the line.

She came inside from her morning duty looking like...well take a look. This isn't as bad as her usual as she was brushed before she went out and then decided - mommy I got to go but where she had to go was not to do her duty but instead she needed to play and avoid the bath. hahahaha

Still, although Fiona didn't win big, she had a fun time at the show doing her scat.

We will let daddy tell you about it. He was after all the guy that couldn't stop laughing. Yep - caught in film - digital that is!

Tomorrow Abs is in the show. Here's hoping she has just as much fun.

Puppy Visit: Updated

Yvonne's crew came over and so did Carol, a Beardie lady. It was great company for adults and dawgs alike!

The crew had a grand time with the puppies but now they are totally tuckered out. Here you can see Fiona hanging out on daddy's leg catching some serious zzzzs.

Check out the photos of today's happenings. Oh gad - are the puppies delicious!

What a Havanese Day

Have you ever seen a growl and a grrr and a roll and a totally wrestlemania rough-house experience with your dogs?

We had guests over that assumed they were going to kill each other but they were having fun.

It's important to distinguish between play and aggression. There is a huge difference but perhaps not to a person that hasn't seen both in action.

Puppies play as if they are going to gnaw each others tail, hair, ears or what have you off but they know how hard to bite down and if one was to go yelp, the other would stop and then continue and lessen the impact. They don't want to end the play and if they don't 'get' it, well they won't have anyone to play with.

If you ever saw your dog growling or barking at others when they are a puppy, often its due to their inexperience in reading another dog's language and them being not sure if the other is receptive to play. They will 'get' that. Some get it earlier than others but if you socialize - and do it often, they will get it earlier.

Just like us, they learn from their experiences - good and bad. We have to guide them down that right path of being totally amazing!

Time for a Bath?

How can I tell it's time for a bath?

When your dog has that greasy look and they are knotting on touch - or so it seems - it's time to bath. It's time for the Fiona today.

First you must always get all the knots out first then bathe. It will make your life easier and theirs.

Be sure to use a detangler to help you take out the knots and a soft slicker if your dog is a pet - not a show.

She has started to blow her coat and they seem to only do that once so knots - knots and more knots - sigh. But if you brush daily - well less. :-)

Here's Fiona's after bath look. Even with a fast camera, it's tough keeping her in one position to get anything but a blur.

A little birdie told me that her sister may be visiting with her humans. Hmm anytime now - just in time to get that mussed in - just played my heart out look.

With the Havanese, you have to get used to that look.
