Havanese Puppy Magic

Well, it's almost the magical witching hour - Halloween, of course. My pups are all seeing, reacting and growing concerns. Since day 14, they have been crawling into and out of the bed with ease. Tux was also the first to get up on those legs and just walk then fall on his face, of course but improving each time within hours.

Still, now they are all doing that walk and getting more proficient as the hours go by. I am amazed how fast they are getting mobile. I can't even get close now and they find me.

Snuggles are the norm around here and mommy said it's nice that the pups have this way satisfied face on when you snuggle them and hold them in your arms. They look at you as if everything is right in the world and it is for them!

Check out Tux in this photo saying - 'Mom, I am not done - you just thought I was'. No incognito thang can be played out here anymore even when I am empty from all that eating. We are in for exciting times!

Now that they can see us, the activity has grown immensely. They are really attracted to the bed and these toys we have in the box at various times. We are practicing slow conditioning to many textures, items etc. As soon as they hear, we are going to do a tape of various sounds that we will play from time to time to get them used to the sounds - anything from traffic to thunder, to loud children etc.

They really like these two small blankets that Mommy and Katsuro got that are incredibly soft. Mommy wants a large one for her bed. They rub their faces on it, roll on it and even go across the box to get to it when placed away from them. Mommy found this so interesting. She's doing a lot of testing with them and daddy is too but he is concentrating on all the snuggles, cuddles and all that good stuff.

Another thing that is becoming interesting is the same pair, after eating does this thing where they each try to put their head on top of the others back and they go back and forth over and over again till they settle in for a nap. In four times that they have done this that mommy has seen, the gal has taken top spot on the smallest boys back. What this means - who knows.

Well, more later as mommy is finally recovered from a computer problem and her other one daddy has been kind enough to get a replacement so she can get back to doing business like she always had. It's been tough for her just working on the laptop.

Keeping it in the Havanese Family

This photo was taken at the beginning of the weekend but wanted to show those that do not visit the Canadian Havanese site that these Havanese are special. They share - they play nice and they genuinely care for each other. They even help each other out.

Now back to Wasabi. After all - this is HER blog.

It's one of THOSE days. The kids - well they are eating and even making slurping sounds. I need to teach them some manners. We don't slurp at the stomach - you hear?

Mommy has to put some soothing gel on me that is non toxic to the babies as a few are giving me things that look like hickeys.

My puppies - this is Tux - waiting for a new name when his personality truly shows - looking at you. Well, they all have their eyes open to some degree and it all happened all right after each other or at the same time. I call this so exciting as they can now see who is licking them clean and snuggling with them. I have some real snugglers in this crew right from the start. They like to snuggle up to my face and neck. Even when they couldn't see, they found their way there. I guess they could smell my breath. Read more about how Havanese smell.

The littlest one - the lone gal has now surpassed the smallest boy in weight. Later on, we will take photos of them with their eyes open.

Mommy and daddy are doing a program that introduces various textures to them starting on day 14. We have also been doing the superdog program that will help us develop high achievers. This way they won't be concerned no matter what the texture is or the feel. Toys are starting to come out now that eyes are open and a mirror will go into the whelping box. The fun is about to begin. Mommy tells me soon they will be playing - be patient. Where have I heard that before?

Well, we have also been busy adding new photos to the album and will be making another video each milestone, I imagine.

Today mommy got up at 430am to fit in her exercise as that hasn't been working so well for her - no havanade yoga for me doggie style or otherwise. I looked up at her and went - see you later when there's light outside. Mommy came back about 6am and Daddy joined her to feed me, weigh the youngsters and cuddle and kiss them.

More later...

Day 16 Eyes Are Opening

Human Mommy bought us a cool new bed so we can get used to various textures - and its so plush and soft - mommy and daddy like soft - like we are when they snuggle with us. She is also placing us on different things so we can get slowly conditioned to our environment.

Today our eyes are starting to open and everyone is way excited around here. Who did they see first - daddy and he thought it would be human mommy.

Petsmart had these incredibly soft blankets that you see in this photo for $2.00. Such a steal.

Well, personalities are already starting to come out and we are keeping track of who reacts to what and how they react so we can track and try to make sense of it all. We are all having fun.

Mommy even dressed Wasabi in a Halloween hat. The things they do around here. Humans can be mighty silly but good to have around - don't you think?

Wasabi's Pups in Action at Two Weeks

Well today we tried putting together a video of the pups at 2 weeks. It's rather a crude version but we are trying. We promise to get better but till then, forgive us.

Wasabi says, I hope you enjoy their fast swishing tails as they get excited about replenishing their little bellys - well growing bellys. They are doing the blind drunk walk these days till their eyes open but they can smell me if human mommy or daddy just opens the gate to my room. Enjoy my little ones. Watch who gets where first and how. Click on the arrow on the video box to load and view.

If you can't see the video or it is too slow (better streaming at our host site), visit our hosting area that we just created. It will come up with our video in a pop up window so if you do not see it, look under your open windows.

Mommy has been busy weighing us everyday. Can you believe this contraption she puts us in? It's a struggle for her these days unless they are tired. Still, it's safer than putting them on a scale where they can wriggle right off.

Good old mommy and daddy looking for ways of keeping us safe.

Look for more videos as mommy pretends to perfect this skill in her spare time.

Fill Me Up Two Whole Weeks Old

I am so thoroughly pleased that my pups are two weeks old today. Can't you see their tiny tails wagging up high saying - fill me up!

They have now taken eating to a whole new level - slurping loudly at times as if they are starving but they aren't.

Auntie Yvonne came to see my pups today. She brought, Britney, Lola, Maggie and the pups to meet someone that was interested in the pups and one is going to their new home Sunday. Read all about it soon on their blog.

The puppies were so cute too - just scrumptious and full of mischievous fun.

Katsuro spent all of his time trying to woo Maggie and they played Halloween dress-up. See them stylin' it!

Now daddy is off to BBQ me some CHEESEburgers in the rain. Yes, I meant to spell it like that. What a dad! I even gave him massive hugs today - cuddle city. He's so special to me. Now where's those burgers, daddy? I have to get back to the kids soon - oops the pups.

After Bath Havanese Still Needs Brushing

Mommy gave me a bath with Katsuro. No shame around here. We all share. She even set me under a dryer and semi dried me out while brushing. I feel so clean but I think the pups went sniff sniff - who is THAT!

Here I am looking at whatever mommy thinks she is feeding me - yuck! You can do much better, mommy! I am not sure about this stuff. It looks like it's going to crawl out of the dish - yikes!

Did you notice that silly mommy dressed one of my pups up for Halloween and created a Havanese Halloween Safety Tips to help you keep your Havanese safe? Do keep your Havanese safe. They are very precious and deserve it!

Havanese Mom Needs Bath

One day, I am going to blackmail mom with these photos she takes of me. She tells me that now that it is day 13, I need a bath. So what if my cute pups have been making my stomach interesting and so what if I looked like the cat just dragged me through the rafters...I sort of LIKE that look. It's better than a bath any old day!

Well, she tells me that Katsuro needs a bath too so I guess I will have a playmate during this cleaning process. Mom likes to have fun with us when we get a bath and it works. I do enjoy my time but mom will have to blow dry me today as its a bit cold and the puppies will create knots otherwise.

Each day mom gets up, gives me a massage - ahhhh and combs my hair and then weighs the babies. It used to worry me as she would put them in this sling and then hold them carefully in the air. I had no clue what she was up to but I trust the old human mom so I have calmed down and don't even get in the whelping box while she does it. She does though and one day someone is going to capture her in her jammies doing it. Oh...if i could only hold the camera myself.

Well more later...

Perfect Havanese Puppy

My mom, Wasabi told me that 'nobody is perfect but me' except for my 5 other siblings - silly mom.

Yeah, my Havanese Halloween t-shirt came today and I just had to share it. It was dropped off the door. Mommy bought it for us from someone local on Ebay. She sells cool shirts just my size - well I have to grow a tad but it's poi-fect!

Now what do you think my 5 other siblings should wear? Got any ideas? The Halloween Havanese Witching hour will soon be here but we can't have candy. Halloween chocolate is toxic to us - well any chocolate.

We had visitors today - all these hairy things hanging out at the gate. Me thinks they were Havanese too. Yes, mommy says they were and they happen to be her pals from Sonrisas and the rest of the pack that live here.

Havanese Puppies Day 12 Posing

Well, it's Day 12 and this is one of my pups. He's already learning how to 'strike a pose'. He's so cute. Look at that black tip ear. When he yawns, I know he's eaten enough and is so satisfied.

All the pups are growing. They are smaller than Risa's pups including Katsuro at day 12 but they have round tummies and are eating up a storm. Me thinks they may be smaller as adults than Risa's but time will tell. They range from 12 to 16 ounces. Yes, one hit 1 lb already - wow!

Yesterday, Linda came over to snuggle with us. It was so nice. The snuggles we get before we even know who we are snuggling but we can smell quite well. Click here if you want to know about a Havanese's sense of smell.

Today Mojo and Opal are visiting and momma Rita came back to see my pups after her appointment. She liked what she saw - fat tummies and interesting looks. Well - more later. Be sure to keep checking out our photos. Mommy updates them daily.

Day 11 Havanese Puppy Stretch

It's Day 11 and time to start doing my Havanese yoga. Yeah, if human mommy can fit it in, so can I. I just have to plump up on all that cool refreshment, watch my waist line expand and then work it off. Don't we all do that? Better than eating Halloween candy as that goes straight to....well we won't talk about THAT! Food does a body good.

My auntie Risa - who is clamoring to take care of us can attest to that statement. That gal will go to great lengths to get food. My Havanese mommy, Wasabi is a small gal and our sire is too. They only do Havanese yoga for the fun of it - heh!

Well, human daddy already has to cut our nails when we are tired. Mommy was a soaking mess after going outside today and human mom had to clean her feet. Yeah - I know this is MOMMY"S BLOG but the kids are taking over - ROFL! Don't they all? They win your hearts and it's all over.

Well, be sure to check out our latest photos. Now if I can only get human mommy caught in the act in photo print of laying in our whelping box 'oohing and ahhing' over us, well that will be something to blackmail her with. Oh, the mind is already churning away at wonderful ideas. Those humans better watch out when we get mobile as their lives will never be the same!

Day 10 Havanese Puppies Feeding Frenzy

It's day 10 and my gad I have this thing down called Havanese motherhood. It's not that I didn't but mommy and daddy are a bit much. They want to make sure all the pups are healthy, weighed, all eating and I am making sure they stay clean. Well, I am. I guess you can never get too careful but I guess mommy and daddy love me sooooo much that they want me to be the best mom I can ever strive to be and I am.

The pups are growing leaps and bounds - some more than others. They now shimmy to me and I don't have to shimmy into them to feed.

Eyes open maybe today - can't wait. I must be the first one that they see - not mommy and daddy - pshaw! My luck, they will have their face in there just when it happens. Oh, actually I have GREAT LUCK as I have 6 beautiful pups - so maybe it will be me! Time will tell.

Can you believe it's over a week? I can't and here it is almost Halloween. My first Havanese Halloween Puppies - hmmmm. The leaves are falling and I hope they remain so I can teach them the Havanese shuffle through the leaves and the rolling that we love to do. I am hoping!

I am relaxing around Risa. She wants to take care of my pups too. She sits outside of the room and sometimes I let her in. I may even allow her to help but we shall see. She's going to have to know - I love help but I am the mom. hehehehehehehe

Wasabi's Havanese Pups Will Play

Mommy says, Wasabi is an interesting mom. She's ever so attentive but she wants the pups to play. I find Wasbi bringing her toys in for the pups to play all the time and its way funny. She even shakes them to get their attention. I guess she doesn't realize they can't hear yet. She's going to love it when they really start playing.

Wasabi says, of course - their mine - all mine till they get new homes - sigh! Till then, I plan to have tons of fun with them and then hopefully I will get to see them at the yearly picnic mom and dad have.

Daddy says, Wasabi not only uses her mind but she has fun doing it. Some would say, Wasabi is a thinker and she is but that's what makes her ever so special. She comes up with solutions fast and we know her pups will too! They take after her, of course. ROFL!

Mommy had my pups out and she had them with the toys all to indulge me and every last one of them crawled and pushed the toys here and there. Mommy thought I might get stressed while she took photos but I was so excited to see them with my toys. She had to have her feet surrounding them as they are a growing concern. They are moving fast these days - almost 9 days old - 8.5 to be exact. By gad, I will get them playing - just watch. To catch these photos, check out Wasabi's Puppy Photos. Mommy adds to them every single day.

Halloween Havanese

Okay, it's not Halloween yet but human mom is trying to find an outfit that will fit these 5 havanese boys and 1 havanese gal.

Human dad says, - get a life!

Me, Wasabi - the real mom out of this crew is glad she's not dressing me up. Sure, I have my sweaters and coats but Halloween outfits - please!

Day 8 Havanese Motherhood

Well, a week has gone by and tonight it will be day 8. I do believe I have this motherhood thing going on. Mommy thinks other than the cute havanes puppies chomping on my hair, it's doing quite well.

I am eating well, snuggling with the pups but these havanese pups don't seem to play with the toys I give them. Mommy says to be patient. They will.

Mommy is going out to the land of the living and getting my photograph of me preggie matted that Maureen and John were so kind to give to her as a present. She's also going to get a photo reframed in mahogany to match our others from Pepi and Teddy's mom - their thanks for watching them this summer. Can't wait to see them on the wall.

Mommy's been busy uploading new photos to snapfish all the time. Look at the menu on the right and click on Wasabi's Puppy Photos to see the latest. Mom's not editing. She's putting everything up - me a mess after I nest in my box and shake my hair into the place I want it to be to mom after combing me. When the pups get older, we will take videos to share as well. This way we create some memories. After all, this is my first crew and there's always something special about the first but shhh don't tell that to any others. Something special about the last too - yeah - they are the LAST.

Well, other than my escape past mom and dad last night to gad knows where in the back to nest, things have been going rather well. Tails are wagging so I know they are happy and life - well its rather special and precious with a havanese or two on your life and I have 6 - WOW!

Week Old Havanese

Well my babies are 7 days old tonight. This is what mommy calls the Havanese huddle. Mom and dad are trying to get me to relax when my puppies do this.

They are sleeping for longer bursts and mom and dad likes to make sure I am taken care of. It's times like this she makes sure I eat, go out and do my duty, grooms me and cuddles with me as she feels if I am happy, the puppies will be happy. I agree!

Daddy finally calmed down last night and slept a bit in my whelping room instead of watching me 24/7. He's finally starting to get it that I got this motherhood thing down. So what if he had 7 kids - I already have 6.

My puppies are growing well. They have fat tummies after eating and you can tell they are satisfied by the amount of sleep we do inbetween. Still, El Blanco Grande and mom's new name for another - 'have to chow down like no tomorrow - Bigote' seems to zone into me whenever I am in the box so I get out now and cool off and I go back in when needed.

At birth their respective weights were:
5 oz (he doubled)
5 oz - up 3 oz (our lone gal - gaining but slower)
4 oz - up 4 oz (he doubled)
4 oz - up 5 oz (more than doubled)
4 oz - up 5 oz (more than doubled)
4 oz - up 6 oz - passing the white one - heh

Gad, it's easy to fall in love with this crew.

Havanese Puppy Characters

It's Day 6 and already personalities are starting to come out. The white one that mommy calls so fondly El Blanco Grande, well she is starting to think she can create an entire comic strip on him. He can always be found eating up a storm and if someone else has milk left, well oops did I push you out of the way - well let me just taste - you do share with your siblings don't you? From one to the next he plows all others down all in the name of that great liquid refreshment but not all of them is taken such totally laying down. The competition thang has already begun as you can see one is on top of El Blanco Grande saying, 'my turn and don't you forget it!' But did he move...nah - he's the big white one and he's already taken the course, 'Havanese Assertiveness Class 101'

The class has JUST BEGUN and we will see who has their way as the class rolls on.

Me, other than being exhausted at all this chowing down on my body, I am enjoying the little ones. I can't wait till they play with toys. I tried to play with them with my squeakie toy yesterday but no takers yet! Don't these dogs know how to have fun? Are you sure they are mine? ROFL!

Proud Human Havanese Dad Speaks Out

Wasabi has always been our best moving Havanese. If I was to pick one dog in our home that was truly poetry in motion, it is our Wasabi. She also has a very calm personality. She’ll run and play and has always loved the puppies but she won’t get too excited about it. She's a thinker. No one can escape her. In 'run-like-hell' games no one can get away from Wasabi when she gets in the mood, except now maybe Kat.

I noticed the other day that over the course of the summer our little boy became very sleek, very muscular, from swimming with me every day. Wasabi was the second most prolific swimmer.

Yesterday Shoshi, who has always put on strong bursts of speed to escape, couldn't get away from Kat when they played 'run-like-hell' as he matched her burst for burst. Risa doesn't even try. She waits for him to go bombing by after Shoshi and cuts him off and they both go flying. It's a riot. He runs in these large very fast circles and Risa watches him for a second, then cuts across his line diagonally.

I also notice now that Risa can no longer overpower Kat when the two of them are up on their back legs playing with each other.

Meanwhile, Wasabi comes outside to do her business and all the dogs are excited to see her. Who can blame them?

Havanese Wasabi Day 5 Watching Pups

This used to be my all time fave place to tease Risa's pups and now I am using it to watch in amazement. I wonder if when they get bigger, Risa will tease mine. We shall see. Time will tell.

We had a visitor yesterday to see our pups. Alex dropped in to say hello and stayed for a bit. He was amazed at how good I look - nice and shiny as if mommy washed me but she can't due to my stitches. Still, this motherhood thing is doing my body good.

All pups are up in weight. I am becoming comfie maneuvering around the pups. I am keeping them clean, feeding them and sometimes I simply stare at them like I am doing here. I just can't believe this miracle - 1 girl, 5 boys.

Day 4 Havanese Motherhood

I am getting more comfie these days jumping in and out to eat and drink and nest in my other box. Mommy even took some of me with just my head sticking out but they aren't great quality. I am really enjoying watching the pups and seeing them move but when mommy puts them in that sling to weigh them or does that program to help them be all they can be, well let's just say I am learning to let mom play with them too!

Day One Havanese Pups

Mommy found this on her camera stick that she forgot was taken the night we got home - brand spankin' new.

We haven't named any yet but mommy keeps calling one tux as it looks like it has a tux with tails on and how so appropriate for a Havanese - a class act!

Mommy says tomorrow, after we weigh everyone including me, that we will put up individual photos. She's been saying that every day - geez!
