Caught in Action or Inaction

From Shannon:

I thought I'd send you this photo. I got a fish bed (really, more for the new puppy than for Levon (yay Spice!), although I was hoping he'd like it). Initially he was afraid of it, but I threw a treat inside and managed to get him to investigate it. This is as far as we've gotten, though. Lol.

From me:

This is so adorable!

How do you get them to go into such spaces? Mine won't go into the canvas house except head and front feet to retrieve something.

That's a great photo! Kudos to Shannon!

Norm: Our pups use such things from the moment they are out of their whelping box. Our adults like them too. Levon will recapture it when he has competition. :-)

Can you teach them when they are older to use these things as I would love to get my Hav to have such fun?

I try putting favourite things like balls and treats in the house but I have not yet had her go right in and lie down.

Norm: You have to figure out what entices your dog and that is different for each be it praise, treats etc and you use that to introduce training or fun. You also have to learn to be silly - lose yourself in the play and it gives them permission to do so too.

Darlah; thank you, I do need to chill out around my dog. This morning I am being silly with her and she is spinning and running like the wind with me chasing and hiding things in places she wouldn't normally go.

Sometimes it's placement too. Levon sleeps on our bed, but sometimes gets off (usually if it's too hot) and sleeps on the floor. I went out and bought him an extra big comfy bed and placed it near the bed, but he never used it - instead he'd always lie right along the bed beside me. Last night it occurred to me to pull the dog bed over so it was touching our bed - which meant moving it a whole four inches - and he jumped off our bed and immediately climbed right in. Lol.

They are such funny little things, I am going to try that with the dog bed I have in our bedroom.

Norm: It is the key. Once you are silly it allows them to be and to be honest it is actually good for us to laugh and play like a child. We get way too caught up in how we look and forget how good it feels to just have fun.

Darlah: so true, here's to fun and silly ways
