Process: Video of Jeannie Added
First stage of labor:
(This stage often goes unnoticed, and takes place in the 24 hours following temperature drop.)
Temperature FINALLY drops to 98°F from its normal 99, 100, 101°F (you should have been taking it regularly for a few days).
If you are really committed, the temperature taking does work. You will find her temperature around 99 to 101, and as soon as it starts to drop below 99 and continues to drop (now you take it every hour or two) you have about 12-24 hours from the start of the drop. When it bottoms out to 98 or 97.9, then you have about 2-12 hours.
With that thinking we should have pups by 10am but we won't. Jeannie is still in 1st stage and her temps have gone back up. This is normal. There are always exceptions to the 2 to 12 hour rule. Jeannie is an exception.
She is nesting at times. She is panting at times but her vulva is not swollen. Swollen tells me pups are in place. She is NOT in distress. She just kept me up all night and of course Nathan said he was up all night and didn't take a sleeping pill as she was close. Somehow I should have known. I think as always Nathan got more sleep than me. Guys need more. heh
When do I think she will go? My luck at 10 tonight. I will let you know when she is in stage 2. She may have started as she is getting rid of her bowels. For dogs when they feel pressure they don't know if its due to needing to go or they are having contractions. It's good that they go through this stage as they empty themselves out so when they are in active labour they do not have a mess.
Jeannie also refuse food and anyone who knows Jeannie knows she LOVES food.
For now she is enjoying the crate more.
When we have pups as usual we will be posting photos as they come or at least text to let you know and I fill in the photos after.
