Learning: a Natural Process
Figured instead of responding I would post this here as it is important enough to note. Someone was surprised Creamy who was first in everything else hesitated on the stairs. I saw it as - how do I, can I, oh boy I can. This is what I love about pups.
It is how they learn. I worry about the ones that just do without thinking. A thinking dog is a 'good' thing so I am glad Creamy who achieved everything first till now is assessing things before attempting. It means he has brains. :-) These stairs are deep and only a few have mastered them. The majority has not. Its not an indicator of anything. Part of it is strength, length of body and being flexible. A part of it is being bold enough to take a chance you may fall and yes they have fallen from stair to stair. They step the wrong way and do tumble. It is a part of learning to achieve.
Today no one did the stairs.
By the way Creamy has conquered the stairs. He wasn't the first. Dallas and Satch was (did I get that name right) then Creamy and the lighter faced gal. All Jeannies have now done stairs. But Jeannies is 8 days older. Stripe from Spices has done the stairs. The rest were too busy having fun to even want to attempt. We don't stage things. We allow it to happen when it does and celebrate achievements. Plus we do not have video on 24/7 so you can miss part of the learning process.
The littlest from Spice won't be able to do the stairs as her body is just not long enough yet. She lacks the reach. Jeannie also didn't do stairs at 10 weeks as she was and remains little. She eventually did.
If I had the wisdom of hindsight I would have made stairs less deep and then you would think they were all stars. But they all are! They are each unique and quite amazing. They all have their very own strengths which are cultivated within their own timetable.
This is not a race. It is can I do this - hmm not sure - lets see how do I - okay lets try. It's rather like how they learned to walk and run. They didn't just get up and do it. They tried and tried, strengthened their legs, perfected their skills and rightly so was proud when they achieved. Then they attempted running. It's a process that they all achieve.
When they achieve they perfect their skills and realize they can do it even better next time. If you think about it we also learn this way. The tragedy is if you can't do something if you never try again but pups --- they do.
You are going to love the pups on Sunday. They just love life! They are also all pretty amazing and yes, I am biased but this is an absolutely fun crew!

The pics of Creamy with his mom Jeannie are priceless!
I agree Creamy is a special looking boy, but I think that all the pups are beautiful.
