I have been a bit fried. The pups will be 9 days old tonight. This means they are 7.5 days older than Spice's.
These 2 births were relatively easy. Thanks goes to Nathan for whelping them leaving me free to do updates and photo and video taking. It's a lot of work juggling. We have created this system as it works but if we have issues it is I who has to take over I guess as I tend to do what we need to. I was lucky to take a seminar with UC Davis and Myra Savant on what to do with tough deliveries. We have had a few. Severed cord, a stuck puppy sideways, a blue puppy and I could go on and on. I mention this as you won't see photos of this as I am doing the work necessary. I have even delivered in the van. Over the years you get better and better at it. Early on I believe I lost a few as I was green. It was heartbreaking and even saved one that shouldn't have been saved as it had hypoxia as its cord was severed and was behind a slow birthing pup. We had to put him down due to seizures and after a full necropsy costing a fortune we validated it was hypoxia not a liver shunt that our vet initially thought. We have never had a liver shunt and hope to never have. Sometimes I question keeping those alive that seem not compatible with life but it's an emotional and intellectual struggle that is not easy and each person handles it different.
Snoozing PupsBreeding is not easy but I can't imagine doing it without Nathan nor him without I. Sure I did Jeannie's first by myself but there is nothing like having a team and we are one. So, I thank him for being who he is.
Jeannie is doing well and adjusting to not having access to Spice's pups.
Pups are fat and I am looking forward to having eyes open and hearing. This happens soon. It's not a set date. It happens usually one or a couple at a time. It is my face I want them to see first where Nathan feels the same. heh
