Oh Fun

Click on Photo for Larger ViewI caught the more white gal with her tail wagging and wagging while she was feeding. She also loves to tunnel. These pups are already showing personality and they are so strong. They just squirm all over to mom.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewThey are now 1.5 days old. We will try today to get individual photos and maybe if I am lucky I will get a quick video but must get show videos off the stick first - no room.

Pups continue to gain. Jeannie is now on antibiotics as she is so full of milk she is heading towards mastitis so we are curbing it. Her bottom nipple started getting hard so we started antibiotics (safe for pups) last night and she is halfway soft again. Think we caught it in time before she had real issues.

She wants steak. She wants the good stuff and she LOVES, LOVES, LOVES the pups.

She was not doing well with Panda and Roxie being in the room. Nothing serious but felt she always had to be on guard. She would surround her body around her pups trying to hide them. It means she is a good mom. Panda also kept jumping high on the couch to try to get past the barriers to look. Can't blame her. She is curious but can't blame Jeannie for worrying about her pups.

Panda's not out of heat for a day or two so they are in Nathan's office now and will be rotated.  Then Panda will be going home to Lynda till she shows signs of being due. Until Roxie has her pups (She is indeed pregnant) no one else will be in here. But by then the pups will be older.

Dennis being exhausted said he kept falling asleep but pups gained really well. He was laying next to the whelping box. Just like a baby you hear every sound. Other than taking care of mom's needs these pups find mom (occasional stuck behind her but get vocal if that happens) he really can sleep off and on.

Nathan has a 4 day show starting Thursday of ring stewarding but is trying to get a replacement as it really is too much. So we shall see. I told him he is going to owe me in a big way and he is. :-)

More later...

Strong Thing

Click on Photo for Larger ViewIn a couple of hours they will be 24 hours old - a full day since they made their debut.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewThe little gal is strong, strong, strong. Usually at this age they simply squirm but she is pushing up on her legs and smelling the blanket. It seemed to fascinate her.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewI have so many photos of her doing this. They don't usually get up on their legs even in such an awkward way till they are older. She seems to be a curious one.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewWhen Lori and Roger heard Jeannie was pregnant they got her this pillow, blanket (2) and 2 stuffed animals. Now that Jeannie's discharge has slowed down we brought the nice soft stuff out and I gather that is what the gal liked. Imagine less than a day old and feel and smell is so very strong.

Pups are doing really well. They are surrounded by softness. Milk is plentiful. Mom is attentive. Life is good. Dennis will be going to sleep when Nathan gets home around 7 and sleeping till midnight then Nathan will go to bed and Dennis will do night time duty. After 2 nights of no sleep I was a dead person but Dennis today let me take all the dogs and snuggle with them in the tv room and sleep for an hour then I had another session where I slept another hour so I can make it to 10pm tonight and ah my own bed sleeping with the dogs and hubby too. Normalcy to a point.

Sometimes there may be 1 update or several so be sure to look further down or you may miss something.

Happy But Messy

Jeannie needs her full body brushed out at once but although I have done sections I won't do the entire body for a couple of days. Instead I do one section here and there so she never has that finished look but she can also not be away from her pups too long.

You can tell she is deliriously happy about these beings she gave life too.

Pups continue to gain weight, eat well and are active.

All Gained

Click on Photo for Larger View

5-6 plus hours old and all have gained - minor amounts but gains. Usually they lose as mom's milk isn't in fully or their sucking reflex isn't strong enough or they are sleepy after the delivery. Jeannie's milk is fully in. on the bottom ones. The top ones I suspect I will be able to bring the milk to the surface by morning. It's there just not flowing like the bottom ones and that is usual.

Jeannie has eaten ice cream (calcium is imperative) baby bell cheese, starter mousse, dehydrated chicken strips. She hadn't eaten all day and she vomited throughout her delivery tons. She indeed had an upset tummy that passed after delivery. I have to clean her and dry her each time she goes so she doesn't get the pups wet and give them a chill.

She is cleaning them, coddling them and not fully aware of them being behind her (usual first hours). She looks to me to help them find her way and that's why I am up. It is going to be a long night and day.

Jon got me a giant sized latte. Let's hope it helps.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewNotice the tails up. This means they are tanking up. This is so exciting at this age. They are doing well and I made it to 5am. I think after feeding the dogs I may ask Dennis to watch the pups and I will snooze with the dogs so I can make it to tonight. We shall see. All I know is 2 nights without sleep is interesting.

12 hours old here are the weight gains

Boy pup .25oz .06grams

More white gal .25oz .07grams

More black gal .25oz .06grams

Hmm Not Sure How

I am night duty as Jon can't get out of work. Nathan should be back around 5pmish and then I will sleep like a dead person unless he is too tired. No sleep last night - none tonight - oh boy.

Photos of Pups

Just doing one of each and will try to do a gallery tomorrow.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewJeannie is doing well but very tired. Yes the last 2 was not fun but she never made a sound. She just tensed up and pushed and made little sounds under her breath. She is AMAZING.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewThis is the boy and he is a tri. He is not a black and white as I suspected. Actually all 3 are tris. We will see how the color presents itself over the next week.

He was 6.40oz 182grams born at 5:08PM

Click on Photo for Larger ViewThis is a gal and as you can see she weighed 6.15oz 174 grams. She was born at 6:55PM

Click on Photo for Larger ViewShe is also a tri. She was born at the exact same time as her sibling at 6:55pm and yes they came out at once. She weighed 6.00oz 170 grams.

Mom is eating, pups are eating. They are active and doing well. Me, I am dead tired. Dennis said he will do the night duty but that means I am alone with dogs and pups as Jonathan has to go to work so I think its going to be me. They are doing so well I can just lay next to them all night. We shall see.

UPDATE: It's me up all night - night 2. Hoping to rest when Nathan gets home.

We are Now 3

We lost the 1st girl - beautiful colors too. sigh She never did catch a breath when she arrived. She presented herself unusual. She had the water bag first then the placenta and then another water bag and it took a LONG time. Usually the pup comes first then the placenta. I am not doing so well about it and Dennis keeps telling me to go out and lay it to rest. I can't yet but will. Sorry. I thought about not even telling you as I don't want you to feel like I do at this moment.

The 3 remaining are very healthy - all tris - 1 boy, 2 females. They look black and white but they are all tris.

More later when I catch my breath. I have been doing this since last night as Jeannie was agitated all night. Then labor and the loss and then the next 3. The last 2 girls had the same placenta and came out at the same time. Two heads at the same time - it was an oh my moment. Not since Tre and his brother did that happen.

Weights coming after I eat.

Jeannie has eaten. She is washed up. I haven't eaten nor have I caught a breath but I am celebrating the 3 that seem to be of good size and feisty. Weights coming after I try to get Dennis to make me a hot dog.

I am in Labor: Update

Click on Photo for Larger ViewClick on Photo for Larger View

Socks is departing so I made sure I got him washed.

She's down to low 98s but not as low as usual but may of missed the true drop during the night. She is nesting. She is panting off and on so it appears to be first stage labor. This can last 12-24 hours or go real quick. I am charging my camera battery. I can't deliver and take photos but I can take photos as I can. I won't be posting as I deliver. I will be posting after.

Nathan departed at 530. Clearly the earliest he can be home is tomorrow night. Jon's working this morning and tomorrow morning so we have him at night.

She has stopped eating which is normal. Tummy is upset during this stage and its the rare dog that eats through labor. I have vanilla ice cream ready (needs calcium during delivery).

We are all set. Just looks most likely Nathan will be missing this one. It will be his first and I feel bad for that but he knew this may be ythe case when he went. They don't always wait. :-)

Update - non stop panting. I believe it will be sometime in the next 12 hours - maybe soon - maybe later - we shall see!

Water is out - placenta coming first - usually a head comes first. No stress but panting. It may be a long one. Won't post photos till end. Without Nathan and Dennis watching dogs its just me.

Jeannies Temps

Click on Photo for Larger ViewThey are down from 100 to 99.3 this morning. They need to drop to 98 before we have a 24 hour window. Only had one exception to this rule - a no drop. That can happen too. But so far she loves her whelping box. I have it setup next to the couch so Dennis can lay down and watch at night. We are ready but I do not think its today.

Nathan said they are going to drive home Sunday morning for 17 hours (if they can) and try to make it to Paula's mom and dad's house in Chapleau. They then sleep a bit and depart for Sudbury 2 hours and then Nathan gets to come home from there for 4.5 hours. I believe he will be home Tuesday. He thinks Monday.

We will see if Jeannie holds out.

Ready for Feeding

Jeannie's milk is already in. Oh my....
